There IS Hope and there IS Help!

We are honoured to have had this story shared with us. We hope that by sharing this, all Canadians can see how The Royal Canadian Legion fights tirelessly for Veterans and their care, and will continue to do so.

This is one such story:

"In the fall of 2020 I became a homeless veteran. I finally got a bed at the Men's Mission Shelter in London, Ontario (it took three or four days). Once there, they got me on Ontario Works. Once I was receiving Ontario Works, they moved me into a private room. One day, I mentioned to the employee in the resource centre that I once served in the Canadian Armed Forces. She went to my case worker and told her they had a veteran living there. I was quickly connected to a worker with a group called London Cares and she got me connected with the Victory Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion here in London. That was in late November 2020. By mid January 2021, London Cares and the Legion had me moved into an apartment. But it was a basement apartment and I'm not so good at climbing stairs anymore. I said so, but was happy to have a place of my own once more. But the Legion didn't forget. When a not-for-profit housing company was nearing the completion of a brand new apartment building, the Legion got them to provide 10 units for veterans. The Legion moved me into one of those apartments in January 2022. Thanks to the generous support of the Legion, the City of London and London Cares, I have spent this year living in a beautiful one bedroom apartment in a brand new building! It's the first time I've ever lived in a new building! So thank you to everyone. Tomorrow, I'm off to the Northland Mall in London to man the Poppy Campaign table for two hours.”
